el"E"vate - Energy (Nutrition)

“When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need.”

While we may have a decrease in calorie needs as we age, the level of nutrients remains the same, or may be higher due to the changes in metabolism and muscle mass. Protein and fiber are essential. Adequate protein is not only necessary for maintaining muscle mass but protein supports immune function, tissue repair and recovery from illness. Fiber is necessary for digestion, regulating blood sugar and weight management.

For me, food has a bigger impact on how I feel than anything else I do throughout my day. I aim to minimize my need for medications as much as possible, I have a heightened awareness due to my genetics. My mom struggled with digestive health as well as anxiety and was on prescription medication for years before eventually developing Alzheimer's Disease. Chronic inflammation can contribute to a variety of diseases and can be an underlying cause of fatigue or depression. Chronic use of certain medications can also affect the gut lining and contribute to inflammation or even reduce absorption of key nutrients. I am doing what I can to manage my symptoms with healthier lifestyle choices. I control my diet with food and water that have anti-inflammatory properties. These choices have had a significant impact on my well being. Since this category is so vast, I have chosen to highlight foods, lifestyle choices, resources and recipes in this section that mitigate inflammation.

Foods that help reduce inflammation include whole foods such as fruits and vegetables (particularly avocados!), which are rich in antioxidants and polyphenols. Other beneficial foods include nuts and seeds, omega-3-rich fish like salmon and tuna, olive oil, tomatoes, dark chocolate, chicken, and eggs. It is advisable to limit the intake of processed meats (such as hot dogs and bacon), refined carbohydrates, sugary foods and beverages, fried foods, and alcohol. Increasing your knowledge and practicing clean eating can help bring better balance to your life. Positive results may include improved sleep, pain, anxiety, and improved physical function, just to name a few.

Additionally, be mindful that excessive packaging and the use of plastic water bottles contribute to the buildup of microplastics, which add further oxidative stress to the body. Using a carbon
block water filter, along with glass or steel bottles and glass or ceramic food storage containers, is an excellent way to reduce the build up of microplastics in your system.

Please take some time to look under the Products tab and learn more about the Kangen K8™ and the incredible benefits of the water ionizer. Since I started using the K8, I've noticed a remarkable improvement in my overall well-being. The alkaline water not only tastes better—crisp and refreshing—but it’s also gentle on my stomach. It’s one of the best investments I’ve made for my health. The ionizer has settings that can be used for cooking and even cleaning, reducing the need for chemicals.
